Tyson is a cyclops and a son of Poseidon. While he is not a demigod, he resides with his half-brother Percy at Camp Half-Blood. He first appears in The Sea of Monsters as a homeless boy. Percy and Tyson are friends, but many of the other demigods at camp taunt him for his uncouth, simple nature. After proving himself on Percy's quest for the Golden Fleece, Poseidon allows Tyson to come work in his underwater forges. Tyson was known to love riding his Hippocampi, which also saved him from dying when he was on the quest with Percy. Subsequently, he communicates with Percy chiefly through Iris's rainbow network, Iris Message. On later occasions in the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series, he leads other cyclopes from the forges in battle against Typhon, after which he is rewarded by the Olmpian Gods with the post of General of the Cyclops Army.
In The Son of Neptune, Tyson is searching for Percy, and he appears in Percy's dreams. At Percy's direction, Tyson finds the harpy Ella, and the two form an unlikely romantic attachment. After reuniting with Percy, Tyson participates in the defense of Camp Jupiter. In The Mark of Athena, he, Ella the harpy, and Mrs. O'Leary (Percy's hellhound) leave Camp Jupiter for Ella's safety.
Tyson is portrayed by Douglas Smith in the Sea of Monsters film
